Perhaps the most significant fighter aircraft of World War II; the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt was the largest and most powerful single-engine fighter of the war; and with over fifteen thousand P-47s built; its production numbers topped any other American fighter. P-47 Thunderbolt at War traces the history of the P-47; including the pioneering efforts of Alexander de Seversky and Alexander Kartveli; who designed the prototype; the features that played into the P-47s combat performance; and its wartime construction and testing. The rugged Thunderbolts flew in combat across Europe; Africa; and the Pacific--as fighter; escort; and fighter bomber. They are brought to life through numerous photographs; many in full color; and through personal war stories from the men who flew them. Affectionately known as "Jugs;" P-47s may not have been the most agile fighters; but they could take a pounding and get back home--an attribute worthy of any pilots affection. P-47 Thunderbolt at War includes personal war stories of fighter-plane combat in Europe; the Mediterranean; and the Pacific; tales of the aircrafts postwar adventures in China; Algeria; and South America in the 1950s; and a number of Republic P-47 Thunderbolt specifications charts and diagrams.

LeaumontThere are few recent writings on the Intertestamental Period; yet understanding the Jewish culture and the events leading up to Christ's time on Earth are key in interpreting Scripture. For those who do not want to read the whole of Josephus and Maccabees; this book is a great place to get solid succinct information on the period.Surburg begins the the Historical events of the Jewish people under the Persians; Alexander; Ptolemies; Seleucids and Herods. He gives a short synopsis of the key leaders and omits some of the lesser leaders. He gives a full timeline of all the period leaders that affected the Jewish people. He then goes into the religious background; including the origin of the sects and the their beliefs. The most substantial part of the book is spent discussing the different writings of the time; including the Apocrypha; Septuagint; Philo; Josephus and the Pseudepigrapha. This book is a great help in understanding the Intertestamental Period; and is very well documented.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. History is never boring; to ignore it brings disastorBy NoahThis book is one of the very best I have read over the years on the history of the intertestamental period. It contains a wealth of accurate historical information that the gives the reader a true sense of the culture of the those times and gives clarity to the condition of society and culture that John the Baptist and the Lord Jesus lived and ministered in. Well worth the time invested in studying that period of human history.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Three StarsBy M. T.Okay but somewhat difficult to understand.
