Very comprehensive book of which the 1st several chapters include the history and the mythology and their application to modernity. That is very important because Her name has been 1st mentioned very long time ago in Egypt. She has been known as the All-Encompassing Aspect of the Mother Goddess; along with the Twin - Nephtys; who is also known as the Twin Goddess; which is Isis Herself. I know it is not a very rational thing to write; but we should be very careful in dragging the Magic Religion of Isis towards the scientific rationalism peculiar for our own era. The religion of Isis is Magic in its real if I may put it that way; form; and has become an inspiration for most if not all modern traditions. The book makes sure that the reader is familiar with the traditions and the unbreakable influence that the original religion has had on them.Although not particularly a practitioner of the "ritual magic" I enjoyed browsing through the chapters that aim to replicate the Ancient Mysteries; that have become the indivisible parts of the Isiac Religion. However; it is just like the author states; that whatever happened in the Mysteries is still; unbelievably - shrouded in mystery. That is because those participating took oaths not to divulge anything that took place at those auspicious events. Consequently; most of the information has been gathered from the secondary sources. Nevertheless; we should be thankful to the author for gathering all that; that makes the religion of Isis so mysterious and yet so accessible; and putting it all in one book; which was made to endure as a historical reference; but also as a primer for the modern worshippers as well as those looking to "understand" the beautiful connection that one can easily develop towards the Great Goddess.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. I am very happy to have this bookBy outskyI am very happy to have this book. The book has two sections: the first section is the facts/research section; and the second section is the spiritual practice section; both are great to read. The facts section of the book is very well researched. It includes many sources and background information that I did not know before (I did have some knowledge about ancient Egypt before I red the book). It is also "objective" in the sense that it is not fundamentalism (to me at least). Rather than trying to prove the myths are literally true; as many other religious books attempt to do; the book focuses on historical evidences related to how people in different regions and time perceive the Goddess and their religious practices. The spiritual section of the book is beautifully written. It contains many visualization practices; meditations; and rituals. These practices are often hypnotic and symbolic in nature. I think they help communicate with the unconscious mind; develop intuition; insights; and self realization. These practices can nourish wisdom by focusing the essence of things while overlooking the unnecessary. Also; many of them only require the mind to perform. Simply close your eyes and enter the magical spiritual world; and feel refreshed and inspired after the practices. I would say even some atheists can enjoy these practices because they can be seen as introspection; imagination; therapy or hypnosis in psychology terms. Finally; I would want to say that I find Abiegnus House's services very helpful. I had a minor shipping problem; but they very kindly resolved it for me.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Excellently researched!By Christina PaulOriginally published b Llewellyn; Isis Magic is a book that is incredibly well-researched. I am currently reading it now. There is just such depth and scope of information that it is a very great deal to take in. As someone who has been practicing the Ancient Egyptian religion for well over two decades; I am very impressed. This is definitely Llewellyn's loss for not keeping Ms. Forest's book and their catalog - and hopefully much more of a gain for the author with her new publisher. I would; however; also like to see this book available on Kindle and hope that the author and publisher will consider releasing it in that format as well.
