Good; Basic Overview for American FoundingBy Kevin M. DerbyIn “Jefferson’s America;” Norman Risjord offers a readable overview of the American Revolution and the Founding. With Thomas Jefferson’s life as something of a touchstone; Risjord guides readers through these pivotal years with a good narrative and some analysis. This is a basic introduction to the topic and would serve well as a textbook. Readers looking for more depth and with more knowledge on the topic would do better to look elsewhere. But; for a good introduction to some of the most important decades in American history; this book provides just that. Recommended.8 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Excellent text for students of Revolutionary AmericaBy Christopher.Taylor@dur.ac.ukThis text provides an introductory insight into the life of an eighteenth century American. Risjord combines detailed comment with a listing of relevant sources. It is an excellent springboard for further study and has been of infinite use in my studies. It is well-structured; adopts an elementary tone and is easy to use. It is different from other texts in that it encompasses the revolutionary era; birth of the constitution and ascendancy of Jeffersonian Republicanism. Even for those not studying the era it is a good read.
