Suppose your sleep was disturbed once or twice a week by a soft rap on the door? Perhaps you’d have to dress quickly before running to the barn to saddle the horses? Then you might have to ride ten miles or so on horseback; in the dark; with a trembling soul clinging to your back—or perhaps you’d be hiding several souls in the wagon you were driving; hoping not to hear the sound of pursuing horses? What excuse could you give for being out alone in the dark?Marilyn Seguin relied on Adam Rankin’s autobiography to tell the story of an Ohio family’s role in the under ground railroad. The Rankin family helped more than 2;000 slaves to freedom. One of the fugitives was an inspiration for Eliza in Harriet Beecher Stowe’s; Uncle Tom’s Cabin.

I have read quite a few. In my opinion; this is the most concise summing up of the many aspects of this subject. It also contains beautiful pictures of places and objects that most of us will not see in our lifetimes. If you are interested in what we do and do not know from an archeological standpoint; this author has been very involved in the most recent projects that have been undertaken and done multitudes of homework on past studies done. Unfortunately; we are not able to do the studies and projects that could be undertaken to learn more at this time. Recommended!14 of 15 people found the following review helpful. Well Written and Fascinating Look at the Temple MountBy Charles Foster KaneHershel Shanks has written a fascinating and lively history of the Temple Mount. The author takes us backwards in history; beginning in the present day; and traces the history of the Temple Mount back through the Islamic period; the Second Temple period; the First Temple period and to the time prior to Solomon's Temple. The book is well-written; lively; beautifully illustrated; and absolutely fascinating for someone interested in this subject. The author manages to cover the most compelling biblical and historical issues surrounding this most venerated parcel of real estate. One only wonders what archeological discoveries lie beneath the Mount itself; currently off limits to researchers by edict of the Muslim authorities.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Great book; easy to read.By CharlieI have been there and stood on the places mentioned. I have seen most of the sites represented in the abundant pictures. The article is well written. I totaled enjoyed the book. I also have been on digs at Beth Shemesh and have heard lectures from many of those mentioned in the book.
