Korean War History My copy of the book was in ...By History BuffKorean War HistoryMy copy of the book was in a paperback format and 197 pages long.Approx 160 pages of text by the author; 19 pages of pictures; 1 map of the Korean Peninsula and some additional pages on the history of Korea from ancient times to 2005.The book was written by a US Army Solder who served in Korea with the 955th Field Artillery Battalion during the period of April 1952 to May 1953. This part of the Korean War and front had become fairly stagnant and was reminiscent of trench warfare in the first World War. The 955th was tasked with supporting a ROK division. Hannon worked on the crew of one of the 955th artillery pieces and as a Forward Observer on the trench line near the "Triangle". Hannon was also tasked with duties such as delivering PX supplies (after adding a personal surcharge to keep the books straight) and delivering mail. The book describes how Hannon performed (FO) duties at the front but also how he stayed away from work areas and lied to an officer to keep from being tasked. This memoir has more strengths in describing life in the US Army late in the Korean War than in describing the combat actions of the US Army.3 out of 5 stars is the highest rating I could give this book.1 of 2 people found the following review helpful.
