Lincoln Ãœber Alles: Dictatorship Comes to America

audiobook Lincoln Ãœber Alles: Dictatorship Comes to America by John Avery Emison in History

Description

The launch in 1906 of HMS Dreadnought; the world’s first all-big-gun battleship; rendered all existing battle fleets obsolete while at the same time wiping out the Royal Navy’s numerical advantage. Britain urgently needed to build an entirely new battle fleet of these larger; more complex and more costly vessels. In this she succeeded spectacularly: in little over a decade fifty such ships were completed; almost exactly double what Germany achieved. This heroic achievement was made possible by the country’s vast industrial nexus of shipbuilders; engine manufacturers; armament firms and specialist armor producers; whose contribution to the creation of the Grand Fleet is too often ignored.

This time I read the last chapter. I bought this book to understand more about Lincoln and the Republican Party in their conduct and prosecution of the against Southern Secession. In his last chapter; the author climbs his soapbox to discuss his problem with modern presidents and their strong central abuse of state sovereignty and personal freedom. Even though this last chapter disconnected from the marketed theme of the book; he tries to place George W. Bush along side the abuses of Lincoln during the Civil War. Hence the 3 rating instead of a 5.If you buy the book; I wouldn't spend a lot of time on the last chapter other than it does expose Emison to be the antithesis of McPherson.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. If you are a pro-Lincoln person this is one for you to learn the contrary position on Lincoln's policies. One cannot learn truth by only reading one point of view.
