Lost Baltimore

audiobook Lost Baltimore by Paul Kelsey Williams; Gregory J. Alexander in History

Description

Matthew Lewis is best remembered as the author of the sensational Gothic novel The Monk. He was also a slave-owner; inheriting two large plantations and making two visits to Jamaica to investigate the living and working conditions of his slaves. His anecdotal record; the Journal of a West India Proprietor; offers a vivid account of plantation life from the slave owner's perspective. This edition provides full contextual background and includes Lewis' verse narrative The Isle of Devils; as well as a telling last letter and extract from his papers.

They really like the book! Even though they've lived there a relatively short time; there are many things of interest to them in the book. They have already learned things about the city's history from it. My husband and I also enjoyed perusing the book. It's great whether you are reading it cover to cover or simply flipping through to look at certain sections.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great; Great Great!By georjecThe book exceeded my expectations. The condition was like 'brand new'; the book itself I couldn't put down. Got to see the street and house my brother and I lived in during the 90's the way it looked in the 30's when it was first built. Book delivered a week before promised.Great Seller!!!!5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Nice BookBy Gregory RedmerLots of cool photos of the "Old" Baltimore.
