Yes it's priceless; but it is what it is...By L.S.It's rather hard to accurately review this "book" because essentially it's not - this is an excerpt of an actual diary of a young girl during the Civil War. And for that reason alone; it's truly a priceless rarity to read. Unfortunately; the majority of the diary includes a daily weather report and the mundane activities of daily life. So; the beginning in particular isn't very compelling based on that alone.However...it's not often we get to actually read someone's real diary experiencing the war as a teenager in the South. Coming from Nashville; it's quite fascinating to read about the area and provides a particularly vivid perspective on what life must have been like back in the day during these times. It certainly wasn't the most compelling read; but was definitely an informative; rare insight to a world we would rarely get to experience; otherwise. From an historical perspective; Maggie is a gem to find.Re: the book in general; one major complaint I have is the font as it's a little hard on the eyes to continually read italicized font the entire time. One also wonders where the artwork comes from?0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. I think many may find this a good diary for more than one reasonBy GunnyGI confess that I bought the book for the limited information that I was in search of regarding Maggie's brother and the Battle of Nashville; but I was surprised by the amount of detail that was included in regard to those subjects. It was more than expected. Maggie provides an insight into the mentality of war-time southern families in an area that fell under Federal control early in the war. Although only a small amount of the narrative was pertinent for my research; I think many may find this a good diary for more than one reason.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
