Bombing from Chinaentailed a tremendous logistical challengesince bombs; fuel; ammo; etc. had to beflown in over the Himalayas. One wondersif it was worth the effort - many supply-carrying aircraft crashed in the mountains.About 10 flights of various supplies werenecessary for ONE B-29's bomb run. Some B-29s were converted to tankers -such was the need for gasoline.Told in the minutest details are the missionsflown over Japan; Burma; etc. Many photosof crews and their aircraft. After a while itbecame a bit of a tiresome read : eachoperation is described in the same setformat detailing aircraft assigned; howmany returned to base due to malfunctions;how many hit primary;secondary or tertiarytargets; etc. ( Writer had access to afteraction reports ) It was important for theauthor to note that one bomber had a bullethole in one of its props !It is quite sad that so many of the volunteers;who carried the war to Japan from suchremote places; died in crashes upontakeoff; landing; and in fighter attacksand antiaircraft fire.
