There was a dire need for better cartography as the numerous wagon trains began their trek west. JC Fremont provided that with the help of Kit Carson. It is interesting that he took two voyages west where Lewis and Clark were content with one long one. One wonders without this book; this journal of Fremont whether we would have even had a railroad connection later connecting the west to the rest. This is an easy read; at times a bit pedantic; but thorough!5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Exploration of America's NorthwestBy F. Van AlstyneI highly recommend this well written book(650+ pgs.)to anyone that wants to know how it was and what was witnessed (in great detail) by the explorers who walked/road across america's west before it was developed.I recommend you first read Undaunted Courage(Lewis and Clark Expedition) by Stephen Ambrose; Astoria and The Adventures of Captain Bonneville by Washington Irving.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. but pretty borning to9 know all of those details and flower ...By A Searcher of LifeIt helped me to know and understand John C Fremont; but pretty borning to9 know all of those details and flower names.
