Mist over the Rice Fields: A Soldier's Story of the Burma Campaign 1943-45 and Korean War 1950-51

ePub Mist over the Rice Fields: A Soldier's Story of the Burma Campaign 1943-45 and Korean War 1950-51 by John Shipster in History

Description

Probably never before have the soldiers of one nation served so widely throughout the world as did those of the British Army during the Victorian era. From Cape Town to Tibet; from New Zealand to northern Canada; from the Khyber Pass to the jungles of Africa; the veldt of Zululand and the deserts of the Sudan; the British flag was planted in the face of frequently hostile nations. That these campaigns could be fought with comparatively few reverses is a tribute to the determination and ability of the small officer corps; and the heroism of the ordinary soldiers; both British and colonial; who served the `Queen-Empress'.

The author moved from the peaceful preserve of academia to leading diverse ethnicities of commonwealth troops in hot and humid Burma against the stubbornly courageous imperial Japanese army. Not too long later he was leading English "tommies" against robotic masses of communist Red Chinese in frozen rice paddies of Korea.0 of 1 people found the following review helpful. very good readBy john dadyA very good book; the author was a very brave man who suffered a lot. He understated his role in a very British way. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in reading about WW11 or Korea.0 of 1 people found the following review helpful.
