Mokele-Mbembe: Mystery Beast of the Congo BasinBy Edmond SchmolkeThis book by William Gibbons is one of the best I have seen on the subject of the Mokele-Mbembe; the supposed living dinosaur inhabiting the far reaches of the Congo Basin in western Africa. He presents all the known evidence and then lets the reader decide if they believe or not. Mr. Gibbons has been to this area several times and is very familiar with his subject and with the African atmosphere geographically;politically and socially. I would ask anyone curious or doubting to read this book since you will get an education in the interiors of the dark continent whether you believe in the existence of Mokele-Mbembe or not. Having read the book; I tend to accept the existence of the creaturewhich is very similar in design to a sauropod dinosaur-a large long necked;long tailed;tree trunk legged plant eater. I have been a serious student of Dinosaur Science all of my life so the Congo Basin in my opinion would be the best and only location on earth in the 21st century where a relic population of dinosaurs could survive. Very interesting volume.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. CONVINCING EVIDENCE EVERYONE SHOULD READBy Jim BThe significance of what Bill Gibbons is documenting should be taken seriously by the academics. This is not an academic tome; both a positive and negative feature; but with more than adequate evidence to take his claim seriously that there are living dinosaurs in the deep regions of Africa. It reads like an exciting novel; but it is non-fiction. I got it for friends; a brave missionary family to the Cameroon who are mentioned in the book and who played a significant role in helping Gibbons bring this documentation. But; as expected; after reading much of it; I plan to get my own copy and recommend it to others. My only question; when will the "establishment" face reality about their false paradigm about dinosaurs dying out 65 million years ago; especially since the confirmation of soft tissue in so many dinosaur bones; is unexplained in any other way; except through "just so stories;" than that they DID NOT die out 65 million years ago; in fact some are still very much alive.6 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Sauropods and ceratapsians and snake dragons; oh my...By AletheuoGibbons details a history of sightings of some unusual dinosaur-like creatures seen in Africa over the last century or so including what are likely apatosauruses; diplodocuses; and styracosauruses. The bulk of the book is about his (and his friends) search for the sauropod-like creatures in the Congo and Cameroon areas. Unfortunately; these creatures are only found in the most uncivilized; swampiest areas of Africa and only during the wet season. This made it exceptionally difficult to locate these dangerous beasts. However; they did locate some of their lairs and cast some footprints. They also interviewed many natives (speaking a variety of languages) by use of translators from different regions about sightings of these various animals over many years. There is sufficient consistency and detailed descriptiveness of these animals to be able to conclude that a number of these creatures really do exist in Africa. Further; a number of westerners have also seen these animals. However; no known photographs have ever been acquired of these animals for reasons explained in the book. Of course; this dispels the secular view that dinosaurs became extinct about 65 million years ago; so the evolutionists are scrambling for alternative explanations. The author correctly notes that the findings are in perfect harmony with a Biblical; creationist worldview. Unfortunately; the media mostly quashes these stories; so the general public has very little knowledge of these creatures existence.
