DysonI was expecting a defense of Confederate sympathies in the region and instead received a fair and balanced account of the divided loyalties in the region and a detailed explanation of those divisions. While the reasons for secession to some may be simple and straight forward; those in East Tennessee were much more complex and more indicative of the mid and border states in general. A great read which I did in just two days due to the author's thoughtful research on the subject.2 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Well written and sourced. A+ read!!By Steven C. MorganVery in-depth work. Well written with sufficient background information as well as small ancedotal insights from the common people involved in the story. Definitely brings some insight into a part of the Civil War that is often overlooked. Recommend to the beginner as well as the more advanced Civil War student.
