DysonI was expecting a defense of Confederate sympathies in the region and instead received a fair and balanced account of the divided loyalties in the region and a detailed explanation of those divisions. While the reasons for secession to some may be simple and straight forward; those in East Tennessee were much more complex and more indicative of the mid and border states in general. Well written with sufficient background information as well as small ancedotal insights from the common people involved in the story.
