[This is] a subject of such relevance and importance that one wonders why nobody else dealt with it in book form before.—Dr. Wilfried HofmannMuslim civilization has experienced a decline during the last five centuries after previously having undergone a long period of prosperity and comprehensive development. This raises a number of questions such as what factors enable Muslims to become successful during the earlier centuries of Islam and what led them to their present weak position. Is Islam responsible for this decline or are there some other factors which come into play? M. Umer Chapra provides an authoritative diagnosis and prescription to reverse this decline.M. Umer Chapra is a research advisor at the Islamic Research and Training Institute of the Islamic Development Bank; Jeddah; and author of The Future of Economics and Islam and the Economic Challenge.

The cover of this book is incorrect!By LillithI received this book a few days ago and I am half way through it; however; I have to comment on the front cover now.As soon as I opened the package that I received this book in I immediently noticed that the picture of the lady on the front of the book with Napoleon is NOT Josephine. I did not pay that much attention to the cover of the book when I ordered it or I would have commented then. The lady in the picture is Hortense; Josephine's daughter by her first husband; Alexandre Beauharnais; who later went on to marry Napoleon's brother Louis. I am shocked that the publishers allowed for this mistake to occur and be sold to the public. Anyone who has studied Josephine and Napoleon can quickly realize this. The book's title is "Napoleon's Letters to JOSEPHINE" not "Napoleon's letters to his stepdaughter Hortense!"I went to the publisher's website ([...]) and they claim to be the publisher of the largest amount of books (139) in the English language on the Napoleonic wars. You think they would have a little better knowledge of Napoleon's family.I am completely flabbergasted!!! I bet Napoleon is rolling in his grave over this!Putting the cover aside I must add that this book is an excellant read. Napoleon was a true romantic at heart and wrote very passionate letters to Josephine. He truly adored this woman and she eventually came to feel the same about him. She was also his goodluck charm!
