PDF Nazi Germany and the Jews: Volume 1: The Years of Persecution 1933-1939 by Saul Friedlander in History

Description

America's Civil War raged for more than four years; but it is the three days of fighting in the Pennsylvania countryside in July 1863 that continues to fascinate; appall; and inspire new generations with its unparalleled saga of sacrifice and courage. From Chancellorsville; where General Robert E. Lee launched his high-risk campaign into the North; to the Confederates' last daring and ultimately-doomed act; forever known as Pickett's Charge; the battle of Gettysburg gave the Union army a victory that turned back the boldest and perhaps greatest chance for a Southern nation. Now acclaimed historian Noah Andre Trudeau brings the most up-to-date research available to a brilliant; sweeping; and comprehensive history of the battle of Gettysburg that sheds fresh light on virtually every aspect of it. Deftly balancing his own narrative style with revealing firsthand accounts; Trudeau brings this engrossing human tale to life as never before.

Understanding the "how" and the "why" of Nazi GermanyBy Stephanie ZimmermannThis is a scholarly written book that shows through factual information; how the persecution in Nazi Germany happened. It explains the effects of WWI on Germans (e.g. Germany's economic problems and their vulnerability towards extreme Nationalism); Germans irrational fear that the Jews were part of a conspiracy to control the world through Bolshevism; the eugenics movement! and the cunning sociopathy of Hitler and the Nazi leadership. All of these elements combined; crescendoed from persecution to the horror and genocide of the holocaust. The author is extremely thorough with background information; and reveals many truths about the participants in Germany and other countries. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in understanding Nazi Germany and the Jews. It would be a very appropriate textbook for a college class; as well.5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. It will break your heart again and againBy underglassHard to "Love It" rating about books about Germany (yes Germany's) attempt to exterminate the Jews. Do expect to be sickened by the truth of how an entire country participated; willingly or not; in this crime.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. An excellent insight into the early years of Nazism.By theroverThis first volume was a great insight to the progressive attitude of the nazi's towards the Jewish population in Germany during those years. Well written accounts and numerous footnotes were provided throughout this volume giving further details as to all that went on in Germany at that time. An excellent product for those seeking a little more information concerning the people's lives on both sides of this terrible situation.
