KadrieI've read a range of books on polar exploration; but this book does a good job of delivering shorter but still-entertaining coverage of a broad range of explorers. I love it so much I upgraded my old used paperback copy to a Kindle; for convenience.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Ninety Degrees North: The Quest for the North PoleBy Philip C. NascaA truly outstanding book which provides the reader with an almost tactile sense of what Polar explorers went through to open up this remote part of the planet to the public and the scientific community. The book reads like an adventure novel; but brings the scientific issues into full focus. The detailed descriptions of the explorers motives; their characters and how their personalities operated under extreme stress are very intruiging. A really good read.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. An Exciting Account of Crazy MenBy Lucky LeifA great book. Reads like a thriller (and; yes; some of the stories resemble horror-tales); the author surfs through a century of Arctic travelling; leaving the reader with a lot of information on these crazy guys who set out to search for the North Pole.
