As a researcher and collector of historical source material; Mr. Gilbert has no peer among contemporary historians. ―The New York Times According to Jewish tradition; "Whoever saves one life; it is as if he saved the entire world." In The Righteous; distinguished historian Sir Martin Gilbert explores the courage of those who; throughout Germany and in every occupied country; took incredible risks to help Jews whose fate would have been sealed without them. Indeed; many lost their lives for their efforts. From Greek-Orthodox Princess Alice of Greece to the Ukrainian Uniate Archbishop of Lvov; from priests and soldiers to employees and neighbors; many risked; and sacrificed; everything to help their fellow man. Drawing from twenty-five years of original research; Gilbert re-creates the remarkable stories of the non-Jews who have received formal recognition by the State of Israel as Righteous Among the Nations.

TruncaleThis book has become a classic because of its historical value. The original title was Spike and Chain. This also was the first book ever published on the use of the Manrikigusari. The author was a Chicago police officer and police academy instructor. The late Charles Gruzanski was also a student and instructor of karate. This excellent book covers all the basic principles and techniques of using the Manrikigusari; the throwing stars and spike. Since the original copy was no longer in print; it used to be difficult to get a copy of this book. This new paper back edition with a new title(Ninja Weapons: Chain and Shuriken)will no doubt become a good seller. In conclusion; if you are into the Japanese Samurai arts and desire to learn the basic use of the spike and chain; this book for you.Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. Loved the history but wish it had more modern applicationsBy Kenneth BowlbyLoved the history but wish it had more modern applications. This weapon is easy to conceal; easy to deploy; has many applications and confuses and intimidates the assailants. I also wish they would have included a way to make a rope practice version in this production. The throwing weapon sections were good as well but I mainly purchased it for the weighted chain information and applications.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. i've learned alotBy Davidgreat read
