It was especially interesting for our family because my Great Grandfather; Henry Niles; was a member of the Ninth Minnesota. On pages 340-341 are the details of his capture; escape; recapture and his subsequent internment in Andersonville prison. He contracted a severe intestinal disease while held prisoner and only survived ten years after his release. Fortunately during those ten years he fathered two children; one of which was my grandfather Jesse.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Things I Didn't KnowBy Donald G. FreemanI thought this was new and exciting. There was new information about our Great Civil War that I was unaware of. I had never read a description of Brice's Crossroads from the Union point of view. I was able to supplement the book with a trip to Andersonville and the book added a lot to my understanding of events at that place.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Great book!By Justine AndersonI especially love it because I have family in the book. My third great granduncle was a hero and my 4th great grandfather was the first in his company to die in a totally mismanaged battle; though his brigade was heroic in their loss.
