RobertsI have to admit that I have gotten weary of the almost exclusive focus in sociology of religion on the rational choice paradigm. I think that paradigm works quite well for evangelicals and others of a conservative stripe. I do not find that that lens makes sense of the faith movements I see among progressive Christians or Jews. It certainly does not resonate as an explanation of many clergy or congregations with which I am familiar. So it was nice to read a recent monograph that is at least on the edges of sociology religion and that is not obsessed with rational choice theory. I very much enjoyed this book. Grace has cut some new ground in analysis of progressive religious movements. I recommend Grace Yukich as a promising young scholar in the field!.
