What becomes crystal clear is the superior training our Naval pilots received; the lengthy boredom and the terror of combat. It should be noted if it had not been for the author's effort with his Dad we all would have missed these recollections of what brought us victory! Well written and easy read you will have problem putting down!6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Interesting biographyBy Mark HendersonIt was a nice to read the real life experiences of an "average" pilot flying off a carrier in WW II. By average; I do not in anyway mean to disparage his skills or accomplishments. For every Joe Foss or Richard Bong; there were dozens of pilots who did not become aces. This book details what this pilot went through to become carrier qualified and survive 56 combat missions. The book is well written; and you get a real feel for the day to day life of a pilot.2 of 3 people found the following review helpful.
