He sheds light on the Essenes and their role in Jerusalem at the time of the early church; and much more. His maps are many and quite detailed. Since I am an amateur; I may be unaware of any scholarly debates which surround the subject matter; but as his treatment is extremely evenhanded and judicious; I believe the interested reader can study this book and be well rewarded for his efforts.
