What is truly remarkable about "The Governor's Story" is it is an easy-to-read; exciting book that feels like a novel. It is a great read from an entertainment standpoint meeting the needs of the ordinary reader looking to be "swept away" for a few hours. But it also fills an important gap in American history. This is the fascinating story of the journal written by the Pilgrim's governor; lost for 80 years and recovered through the providence of God in 1897.

I have found many histories like this to either be a collection of footnotes or a story with no sourcing. This one; though; is a gem -- a fascinating story told without embellishment or fiction. It tells not just the story of these individuals and that piece of land; but how the people and the land fit into the larger story of the settling of New England. I found several 10th great grandparents of mine mentioned -- most of whom I had never known about before.5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. OutstandingBy L H HainsI have enjoyed the writing of Mr. Radune. He fully explains the conclusions that he draws and cites his sources. At the same time he has centered the story on several founders that make it into a engaging tale. You sometimes forget that you are reading history. Well done!3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Family HistoryBy David AveryGreat book that explains so much about life in the early Americas. Lots of detail - a good thing. Adding that one of my ancestors was a founder of the Peguot Plantation and discussed a lot in the book certainly helps.
