Review
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Geared toward group discussion; very conversational monologue. Just SO good.By Mara's MamaI've recommended this book to everyone I can talk to. We're starting a Be the Bridge group in my area; and this has been a really helpful tool for me and conversation starter. It's geared toward group discussions. (I'm a whites female in the suburbs. More people need to read this book. Would it be weird to buy as Christmas presents for family? Too far?) HIGHLY recommend. This book also led me to The New Jim Crow; which I also highly recommend.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. because it recognizes the difficulty of “negotiating privilege” and the absolute necessity for us nice people who assume we areBy Houston RobertsonThis book provides an invaluable look at the patterns of injustice that operate; mostly unconsciously; within our governmental and cultural systems and; therefore within me and other white and heterosexual people. All of us should read this book; because it recognizes the difficulty of “negotiating privilege” and the absolute necessity for us nice people who assume we are good to negotiate our way out of our failure to recognize and confront that we are a big part of the problem. This book frankly and compassionately leads the way for some deep personal (or group) examination and confrontation for those of who say: I’m not racist. I’m not homophobic. As Jha says: "Privilege looks a lot like thinking your intentions matter more than your impact.” Frankly; a lot of us white folks "just don't get it." This book will help you get it. I dare you to get out of your comfort zone; a zone we too often want to protect above all else.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. every school and every place where a community of faith gathers--it is thought-provoking and excellent for book clubs and discusBy nothingintowwish this book was in every public library; every school and every place where a community of faith gathers--it is thought-provoking and excellent for book clubs and discussions groups--recommend it highly!
