Rather Die Fighting: A Memoir of World War II

audiobook Rather Die Fighting: A Memoir of World War II by Frank Blaichman in History

Description

National security; a topic routinely discussed behind closed doors by Washington’s political scientists and policy makers; is believed to be an insider’s game. All too often this highly specialized knowledge is assumed to place issues beyond the grasp—and interest—of the American public. Author D. Robert Worley disagrees. The U.S. national security system; designed after World War II and institutionalized through a decades-long power conflict with the Soviet Union; is inadequate for the needs of the twenty-first century; and while a general consensus has emerged that the system must be transformed; a clear and direct route for a new national security strategy proves elusive.Furnishing the tools to assist in future national security reforms; Orchestrating the Instruments of Power articulates and synthesizes the concepts of America’s economic; political; and military instruments of power.

His entire family (Jewish) was taken away and never returned. Having no idea what to do or how to go about it; Frank decided that his fate would not be the same as that of the many Jews he saw being taken away and disappearing. Running into the unknown; surviving by luck; chance; and good wits; Frank tells his amazing story of hope; courage; and confidence in the midst of tragedy; destruction; and chaos. Very well written...the pages fly by!1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. gutsBy Mcgregor R. PearceHaunting pictures of mobs of Jewish victims lead to slaughter are commonly shown. It's nice to read about someone who fought back and survived. There were all to few who succeeded; and fewer still who wrote so well about the experience.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Read this.By DBKI didn't know any of this history. I read it straight through. This guy and his compatriots were very brave and should be remembered.
