The French Revolution had wrought religious and civil havoc in France and the Italian states. Thousands of French priests had been killed or deported; other priests and bishops were forming a schismatic national Church; the previous Pope had been kidnapped and had died in exile. Catholics were losing the Faith and adopting an attitude of resistance to all authority..This was the beginning of the reign of Pope Pius VII (1800-1823)--one of the most difficult and confusing eras in Catholic history. I used to be convinced that Argentina was where he lived and died. This book lays out powerful evidence that he instead died in Indonesia. I recommend this book for anyone interested in this topic.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Very interestingBy PWThoroughly researched; well written and appropriately speculative. The walk through on the "evidence" of Hitler's death alone is worth the purchase price. The detailed look at the Ratline and who sponsored it and who collaborated in funding and administering it is very interesting reading indeed.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. RatlineBy PRNot sure if this book is legit; but it is still great reading. Personally; I believe the premise is very probable-- that Hitler made it out of Germany alive with the help of an international Nazi network; and died in the 1970's. Significant to this argument is the effort by several national leaders around the globe to find him after the war and the sketchy conflicting accounts of his suicide.
