Review
6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. A good survey of the periodBy Fred From RichmondA well supported challenge to what was then (the time of the book's writing) view of reconstruction. However; it is very brief and one almost has follow the reading of this book with another; more in-depth survey. The years 1865-1877 are probably not as studied as they should be. Some of the early works were politically tainted by the right. More recent works are likewise tainted by the left. Dr. Franklin's work reads to this student as being extremely objective.
