You will be glad that you added this little gem to your collection!By EPP and VHPHistory is a living thing and Andy Gabriel-Powell brings the reader as close to the events of the first British explorations of the New World as one can with his first publication - Richard Grenville and the Lost Colony of Roanoke.Whether you are a scholar of American history; or just fascinated by the story of the Lost Colony of Roanoke; you will be glad that you added this little gem to your collection. Not only does the author have intimate knowledge of the likely points of departure of the colonists but he also brings newly discovered documents to light in his search for the truth. In these remarkable accounts the reader is transported back to Bideford; England in the late 1500’s; sails with the explorers to the New World and experiences their first observations of the lands and peoples they found.Richard Grenville and the Lost Colony of Roanoke is a real life treasure hunt with amazing finds and fresh new insights into the events surrounding the first critical steps of the British colonization of America.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Why Grenville isn't considered a larger part of the history of North America is incredibleBy Kevin GordonWhy Grenville isn't considered a larger part of the history of North America is incredible; great insight on a fascinating story. The theory on what happened to the original settlers had never really occurred to me before. Also Andy's information on the significance of the town of Bideford is quite amazing - so much great history lost due to stupidity. A fascinating read which encouraged me to re-read Kingley's Westward Ho! 30 years after the original reading. Great personal significance to me as I lived in the site of the Grenville manor as a child. Thank you for this Andy.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful.
