River Rough; River Smooth: Adventures on Manitoba's Historic Hayes River

ePub River Rough; River Smooth: Adventures on Manitoba's Historic Hayes River by Anthony Dalton in History

Description

This blow-by-blow fictional account of a war between the United States and Japan was a forerunner of actual events; written 16 years before the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. Bywater; the world's leading naval authority in the period between the two world wars; prophesied the following: A Japanese surprise attack attacks U. S. naval forces in the Pacific. Japanese troops simultaneously invade the Phillippines and Guam. Recognizing their limits; Japanese commanders hold off from any attempt to capture Hawaii.

Review
2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. NOT THE "Quest For The Bay" Expedition. A prequel expedition to that. Decent adventure read regardless!By CALLAHANI really enjoyed this book. If your a fan of the old TV adventure series "Quest For The Bay"; you should enjoy this read. A FIRST ATTEMPT at getting a modern day built York boat from Noway House to Hudson Bay via the Hayes river. I don't want to add any spoilers but I would have given this book 5 stars had the author mentioned that THIS EXPEDITION IS NOT THE SAME EXPEDITION AS THE TV SERIES "QUEST FOR THE BAY". In fact is semi irritated me (as a buyer of this book) that the author never even gives one mention to that successful journey in 2000. This book was written in 2010 and this expedition took place in 1996 being basically a "prequel" to what would later become the successful "Quest for the Bay" expedition across Lake Winnipeg to Hudson Bay.With that being said; this is still an excellent read of another journey through the Hayes River. The author provides a lot of history; sometimes a bit too much if you already know about York boats and the Hudson Bay Company and Fur trader history. Still; I enjoyed this book as it put me in this author's boots in the wilderness; the expedition and what he experienced as a crew member and photographer. Still very much worth the read if you enjoyed "Quest For The Bay" wilderness adventure show.
