The Healing Drum traces the extraordinary cultural legacy of the Minianka tribe of West Africa; for whom music serves a sacred; healing function for the individual and society. The authors explore the Minianka view of humanity; music; and the cosmos relative to work; celebration; herbal medicine; dance; trance; initiation; and death. The first book of its kind; delivering a message of untapped wisdom and power from a little-known culture through the universal medium of music.

I like the almost Irenic approach and readability with minimum technical terms for the lay person. High grade for " not everything we do is rooted in Scripture." This is significant especially if one has behind his mind the difference between Sola Scriptura and Solo Scriptura. The section on music also deserve high points. Author was reflective about his own background and gave reasons why it would be better to move away from acappella due to "seismic change." Low grade on section of Baptism. One of the distinctness of Church of Christ is the term: Baptismal Regeneration. No baptism; no salvation. It is easy to " bash" Roman Catholics especially from Protestant point of view. Harder to reflect upon one's own Restorative Movement. This is where the author did poorly on the topic -- Bible. In conclusion: A good easy read with some information. However; lacking more substantive substance if one is looking for that .
