PDF Royal Air Force Fighter Command Losses of the Second World War; Vol. 3: 1944-1945 by Norman L. R. Franks in History

Description

Mass-produced images have long been produced and used in India by religious and nationalist movements – the emergence of Indian-run chromolithograph presses in the late 1870s initiated a vast outpouring that have come to dominate many of India’s public and domestic spaces.Drawing on years of archival research; interviews with artists and publishers; and the ethnographic study of their rural consumers; Christopher Pinney traces the intimate connections between the production and consumption of these images and the struggle against colonial rule. The detailed output of individual presses and artists is set against the intensification of the nationalist struggle; the constraints imposed by colonial state censorship; and fifty years of Indian independence. The reader is introduced to artists who trained within colonial art schools; others whose skills reflect their membership of traditional painting castes; and yet others who are self-taught former sign painters.Photos of the Gods is the first comprehensive history of India’s popular visual culture. Combining anthropology; political and cultural history; and the study of aesthetic systems; and using many intriguing and unfamiliar images; the book shows that the current predicament of India cannot be understood without taking into account this complex; fascinating; and until now virtually unseen; visual history.

Excellent ReferenceBy Jason Wisniewski"Royal Air Force Fighter Command Losses of the Second World War: Vol. 1 - Operational Losses: Aircraft and Crews 1939-1941" by Norman L. R. Franks is an excellent reference for those searching for information on RAF Fighter Command losses over Europe during the period 1939 to 1941. The book lists losses by date; including squadron; aircraft type (e.g.; Hurricane Mk I); pilot name; aircraft number; and reason for the loss. Chapters are: (1) The 'Phoney War'; (2) The Battle of France; (3) Dunkirk; (4) Final Days over France; (5) The Battle of Britain; (6) Taking the Offensive; 1941; (7) The Shooting Season; Summer 1941; (8) Autumn and Winter 1941. The book concludes with appendices on Fighter Command orders of battle; Night Fighter Squadrons Operational or Being Formed; July 1941; and Wing Leaders; 1941. The book's only drawback is that it includes only the European theater of operations; and does not include the Mediterranean or African theaters of operations. However as a reference work this book is unmatched and "required reading" for serious World War II aviation researchers.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Five StarsBy Robert B.Great reference!1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Great Source for research.By Michael B.I'm not much into studying the RAF but when I've needed information on a loss for them during this period this book has been great. It provides information on the type (example: Spitfire I); squadron; aircraft serial number; pilot; fate and location. So it's a great source to have.
