Overall both vol. 1 and 2 were very good and presented in a interesting way. Historical photos were well done along with the documentation of the companies that manufactured items presented.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Ever Wonder What a German Soldier did for Entertainment?By Mr. T.As i kid I always wondered what a soldier did when not in battle? This book give a good picture of what it was like as a German soldier. I found the organization different and felt it made the book harder to read. I did enjoy the book and plan to purchase the second volume in the series.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Excellent book.By Quintin TrammellAn excellent book. Very good companion to volume 1. If you have volume 1; buy volume 2. If you don't have either buy both. Leaving the battles and tactics behind is my area of interest. If it is yours too; you will like this book. In this regard; Schiffer Publishing has a number of excellent books going beyond battles and tactics. Jim's books; Rations volume 1 and 2 and this set; Ruhetag volume 1 and 2; are perfect examples. I especially love chapters 12; Pets and the German Soldier and chapter 13; semi-official unit badges. Personally; I would have liked to have seen more on the pets. Even though pets were discouraged; having pets or mascot was not uncommon at all.The book follows the same format as volume 1: one or two page narrative about the chapter subject and then clear; crisp photos with captions. Easy to read. Detailed but not boring. highly recommended.
