SAS Survival Guide (ISBN 13: 978-0-06-199286-5): A Step UpBy jrc1419Someone gave me an older version of John Wiseman's "SAS Survival Guide" about a year ago. I read the entire book in a couple of settings (384-pages). It's a step up from the average every-day-over-the-counter-outdoor-book; touching a pretty high note if you're into serious outdoor adventures or survival stuff. The book measures about 3.25-inches by 4.5-inches by .75-inches thick; very compact (fit-in-your-hip-pocket-compact).Wiseman uses....message headlines... on every page; one idea per page (which makes it easy to read); and he cross-references pages for additional information. Pictures too. Examples: The section on finding and gathering water is very well written; and the section on plants (edible plants and plants to avoid); includes color drawings.I bought two books. An extra copy for myself and one for a friend. The package came from The Book Depository in Gloucester; UK so be patient because the 2 to 3 day delivery option may not apply.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. One of the Best Books Out There on Survival and Also Great For a Camping Manual Too!By danofiremanoOne of the best books out there unless you're a beginner in the world of outdoor adventuring. It explains a lot of things that you should know about being in a wilderness environment; but there are things you should already be proficient in before using this manual. One of these things is how to properly use and maintain a knife. Among other things that would be good is not to be afraid to kill and gut an animal for food because you think it's gross. You should also have some working knowledge in wood and rope work to make those sections easier to use.You probably don't have to set up your "KIT" 100% the way he has it in the book depending on the places you go and it would help you to be aware of these as well before hand.I must say I have actually learned some useful information from this book and I've been an outdoors person since I was a kid. Survival isn't for the weak as they say and you also need to be mentally prepared to be useful in any emergency situation if you expect to get out alive. That being said; I have pushed myself beyond comfortable limits to test my resolve and I guess that's why I became a firefighter; because I knew I could handle that kind of stress. So I recommend this book to any adventurer who wants to learn more than they know at the present time!Good Luck and Godspeed;danofiremano0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. It's tiny. Really; really tiny.By aj rI'm familiar with needing to check product dimensions on something like... serving trays. Picture frames. Books? Never been a consideration. Until now. It's pocket sized; to that point that even with reading glasses the print is basically too small to be read. An inch larger in either direction would've still fit in a pocket and allowed for a larger font size.
