ChesiA wonderful resource for anyone interested in the Revolutionary War......I have several ancestors that served from New York in my family lines. Robert Mayers does a great job of making our past history come alive. I can't wait for his next book.....0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Beyond the basics of the American Revolutionary War.By Joseph A. ManciniMr. Mayers books are professionally written in a way that's easy to understand. We grow up learning the about the Revolutionary war in the most basic sense. This Book and his other publications have put the face on the ordinary soldier and the battles we might not of heard of. This is very similar in the way of private Joseph Plum Martin. The Men and Battles of the NY Hudson Valley and New Jersey that were lost in history where brought back to life by Mr. Mayors; His publications has become the " Rosetta Stone " in translating the hundreds of documents I have on my family's participation in the Revolutionary war. My third great grandmother wrote a 47 page statement to the war department for her due pension. In these letters she details our family history and events that occur during the war of independence.. They were farmers of on the Hudson Valley and Mr. Mayers publications helped me understand more completely the events involved who otherwise I would've had no knowledge of. This was especially true with the small militia units. As a veteran paratrooper and an amateur history buff I enthusiastically recommend Mr. Robert A. A Great BookBy A. WohlJust finished reading Bob Mayers’ latest book; Searching for Yankee Doodle. From reading his book it was obvious; Bob Mayers is a careful and knowledgeable researcher who has spent many hours in finding historical documents and other resources that some of us knew existed. In my opinion; what sets him apart from so many other historians is that he has weaved what he has learned from his research into compelling stories about Washington’s soldiers in the American Revolution. He tells you who they were and how they dealt with the enemy; the adverse conditions of nature and; at times; even with their own government.I found his latest book hard to put down. Bob Mayers with great clarity goes about effectively separating supportable facts from popularly held myths. To assist the reader; he has included a significant number of illustrations.Bob Mayers is a master storyteller and writer. He has chosen subject matter that continues to hold his readers’ interest.I recommend Searching for Yankee Doodle to scholarly historians –and also to those others like me— who incorrectly believed that reading early American History could never be both enjoyable and educational.
