An introduction to the best from the new directions in U.S. immigration history Representing a selection of the finest new research on immigration; American Dreaming; Global Realities explores the ways in which immigrant lives and those of their children are shaped by transnational bonds; globalization; family ties; and personal choice; and the ways in which they engender a sense of belonging and a sense of themselves as “Americans.†American Dreaming; Global Realities considers a plurality of very specific historical; economic; regional; familial; and cultural contexts. This history reveals resistance and accommodation; both persistent older traditions and Americanization; plus the creation of new cultural forms blending old and new. The twenty-two interdisciplinary essays included in this collection explore the intricate overlapping of race; class; and gender on ethnic identity and on American citizenship.

I could not have endured such abject cruelty and revealed my story of survival with such kindness. Today I had the astonishing joy of meeting Judith again after 30 years. She is frail but that great spirit shines through her eyes as it does through "Ike"s. What treasures they are! The gold stars above reflect the Gold Stars of Auschwitz; the gold stars of her remarkable soul; this seed of Sarah. A very brave and strong woman against such evil.By SandyI really liked how Judith so very lovingly described her family life before and after the war. She lived through one of the worst times in the history of mankind. I'm glad she made a good life after the horror she lived through. I very brave girl.
