ePub Shadow of the Almighty: The Life and Testament of Jim Elliot (Lives of Faith) by Elisabeth Elliot in History

Description

“More than inspirational reading: it belongs to the very heartbeat of evangelic witness.” —Christianity Today Shadow of the Almighty is one of the great missionary stories of modern times. It is the life and testament of Jim Elliot; as told by Elliot’s widow; author and evangelist Elisabeth Elliot Gren. Shadow of the Almighty is the true account of Elliot's martyrdom; along with four fellow missionaries; at the hands of Ecuador’s Huaorani Indians. About this important and enlightening book; Eugenia Price writes; “It proves that Jesus Christ will bring bright creativity out of any shadow which might fall across any life and any love.” A story that has inspired Christian readers for more than half a century; it poignantly recounts a tragic event that was presented from Huaorani perspective in the 2006 feature motion picture; End of the Spear.

Challenging; Inspiring and Motivating!By David Dale (ddale@one.net)This is a must read for all Christians who have any desire to know Christ and to offer their lives to him. If not; this book will definitely challenge you to do so. Shadow of the Almighty mainly consists of letters and journal entries Jim wrote while at college and while preparing and serving on the mission field. It represents a great example; not of a perfect man; but of a man who wanted to live his life fully for Christ; no matter what the cost. The main message is that to know Christ is to obey him; and that Christ is worth laying down anything and everything. Thus; Jim's famous words: "He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose." Jim is an inspiration and example to me as I prepare to serve as a missionary in some of the most unreached places on earth.4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Motivating; Enjoyable; and ConvictingBy Joel B. LozanoThis is the first book we've chosen in my discipleship group where I've wanted to read ahead of my high school students! Elisabeth Elliott is a skilled writer who can paint a picture of every story in your mind. I was skeptical at first when someone suggested it to me because she has written a few other books such as Passion and Purity that are difficult to read for the average reader. While she does use a few bigger words; and Jim Elliot's journals within this book have high vocabulary too; most of them are easy to figure out within the context; not really requiring you to have a dictionary handy. I recommend this book to people who have been required to read books enough to where now they've forgotten how fun it is to read an amazing story like this. Jim Elliot is now a real person to me instead of just a legend. He is a timeless role model for men of all ages; and this story to me is like a riveting TV show that I can't wait to watch each week!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
