ePub Slavery in the Caribbean Francophone World: Distant Voices; Forgotten Acts; Forged Identities by From Kadish Doris Y in History

Description

Originally published in 1985; and available for the first time in paperback; Bondmen Rebels provides a pioneering study of slave resistance in the Americas. Using the large-scale Antigua slave conspiracy of 1736 as a window into that society; David Barry Gaspar explores the deeper interactive character of the relation between slave resistance and white control.

Brilliant work by Dr. KadishBy Linda StevensThis is a monumental work because it exposes an area of research that previously had been ignored.Slavery in the English-speaking world obviously is much more well known. Voices of the oppressed have been published today hundreds of years after the fact. Today; thanks to Dr. Kadish and the University of Georgia; that is true of the Francophone world as well. The history of the beginnings of Haiti (with the war against; and kicking out; of the French) are at the forefront of Caribbean history books. Virtually all of it is from the perspective of the French. The essays in this book give the reader a strong sense of what it was lke from the view of the Haitians themselves.I highly recommend this book for those interested in the history of slavery; the Caribbean; or the French colonial experience.
