Smithsonian Civil War in 3D: The Life and Death of the Solider

audiobook Smithsonian Civil War in 3D: The Life and Death of the Solider by Michael Stephenson; Smithsonian Institution in History

Description

The struggle for control of the eastern waters of North Carolina duringthe War Between the States was a bitter; painful; and sometimeshumiliating one for the Confederate navy. No better example exists ofthe classic adage; Too little; too late. Burdened by the lack ofadequate warships; construction facilities and even ammunition; nevertheless the South's naval arm fought bravely and recklessly tostem the tide of the Federal invasion of North Carolina from the sea.Storm Over North Carolina is the account of the Southern navy'sstruggle in North Carolina waters. It is a saga of crushing defeatsinterspersed with moments of brilliant victories. It is also the story ofdogged determination and incredible perseverance in the face ofoverwhelming odds

A good addition to the library of anyone who's interested in the Civil War.By Quilter TI gave this book and viewer set to my husband for Christmas. He's read a LOT of Civil War books and magazines; so he's heard many of the same stories and seen many of the same pictures over and over again. He said many of the pictures included in this Smithsonian set he had never seen before and that the accompanying book is excellent. He was also pleased with the quality of the viewer. (FYI just in case: We have a regular stereoscope viewer as well. The pictures from this set are too small to use in a regular sized viewer; but the viewer in the set does a good job of magnifying the pictures so they are viewable without having to squint or use other magnification.)0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. stereoscope setBy ZellaThis is one of the coolest things I've ever bought myself! The stereoscope and stereographs are amazing; and the book is pretty great too. You don't have to be a Civil War buff to enjoy it. I really haven't read anything about the Civil War since I studied it in high school over 40 years ago. I mainly bought this because I've always wanted a stereoscope and this was more affordable than a genuine antique one; but I found myself getting deeply interested in the Civil War soldiers due to the quality of this set. I was influenced by the Smithsonian name on it; too; and it lives up to that name. Recommended.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Great set for Civil War buffs...By NymphadoraI really like this set. They ARE reproductions and won't fit an antique stereo viewer; but the one that comes with it is fine. Three or four of them I could not get to 3D correctly...don't know why. Also; the printing process used makes the photos a little snowy; but I enjoyed them completely. The book is beautiful.....I forgot it came with one until I decided to lift the liner and see if it hid any goodies. The book is a glossy 175 page full size book full of great photos and paintings. I believe you will enjoy this product. Hugs...
