Outstanding and much neededBy Grayback63Prof. Robertson's work is an important piece of Civil War scholarship; and a timely update for a subject that hasn't been comprehensively covered since Bell Irvin Wiley in the 1940s. Far from being a retread of Wiley; "Soldiers Blue and Gray" draws from hitherto unknown or unexplored primary sources and does so in a fresh; insightful and highly readable manner. For anyone interested in the day-to-day experiences of the common soldier in the war; or simply eager to have a well-rounded Civil War library; Robertson's recent work is invaluable. To anyone familiar with his body of work; "Soldiers Blue and Gray" is obviously the well-crafted product of years of reflection on the meaning and impact of that generation's sacrifice during our nation's trial by fire. My copy has certainly become dog-eared in the few weeks I have had it.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Book and Seller reviewBy C. MurphyGreat Book.
