Soul Survivors: Stories of Wounded Women Warriors and the Battles They Fight Long After They've Left the War Zone

ebooks Soul Survivors: Stories of Wounded Women Warriors and the Battles They Fight Long After They've Left the War Zone by Kirsten Holmstedt in History

Description

Moving narrative of the harrowing ordeal of Civil War prisoners Based on newly discovered primary sources During the Civil War; more than 30;000 Southern prisoners passed through the gates of Fort Delaware over the course of three years. As with all Civil War prison camps; Fort Delaware gained a reputation for wretched living conditions and is still called the "Andersonville of the North" by some historians. Undoubtedly; there were suffering and death at the prison; but a thorough examination reveals a markedly different picture: that of a group of men and women determined not only to survive; but to thrive as well; despite harsh circumstances.

Her insight into relaying our feelings are incredible. When you think you are alone; you find that many females in the military feel the same way and you are not alone. The women profiled in this book are strong and are survivors and I thank you and Kristen for having the courage to speak out and let the world what we are feeling. Thanks for another great book!3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. This was awesome! One I will read more than onceBy Kathryn L. GretenJust Finished This! This was awesome! One I will read more than once! I love all Vets; but it gives me more of an Appreciation for Women Vets; that wanted to serve; and was put thru the ringer in more ways than on!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Enjoy your readBy Eric A. HolmstedtI am biased because the author is my sister. But that being said - all of Kirsten's books provide a real in depth view of real female veterans of US conflicts. It as emotional reading as it is informational. Very touching moments in each book. Enjoy your read.
