It mostly talks about archeological discoveries starting in the late 1800s going all the way to the 1970s. Lots of good pictures and explanations but it still lacks lots of information about Sumer but I think it's because the author focuses on the archeological findings more than anything. It contains a nice map of the area so you can follow along. The following are the contents of the book.1-History's Forgotten PeopleEssay: Cities in the Sand2-Milestones on the Road to CivilizationEssay: Echoes of Uruk3-Royal Splendors Buried Under Layers of TimeEssay: Tales from the Death Pits4-The Bloody Legacy of the Gardener's SonEssay: Servants to the GodsTimelineAcknowledgmentsPicture CreditsBibliographyIndexStill a pretty good book to own if you're into ancient history and/or Sumerian history.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. ancient history buffsBy Joy Eve HirshI enjoyed the pictures of the area of Sumer and found the commentary enlightening.
