Taming the ArticBy Tom FisherI had never heard of Louise Arner Boyd before reading this book.I found it very interesting that Louise Arner Boyd's travel; work; study and maps were almost totally unknown to the vast majority of people; while her maps and photographs were of so much use to the U. S. Military in the 2nd World War.I also found it very interesting how a San Francisco socialite could put together Artic expeditions and totally run them in the 1920s and 1930s.I feel that anyone who reads this book will wonder why they never heard anything of her while going to school and studying history and geography; and develop a very healthy respect for Louise Arner Boyd.
