It is in chronological order of each battle; which helps if you are one that likes to visit in order to keep the overall conflict in your minds eye. The author lists battles I was not aware of (and I majored in history)! It is a bit dated so hopefully the preservation is further along than mentioned for some sites. Publication date does not affect what happened at each site; though. The maps were a bit hard to read as road names were faint (I; for one; like to overlay a past battle over a current map since major roads don't change much - this gives an idea of the scope of battle where development has taken over) but it is not a serious defect - I used a magnifying glass. More detail than expected as to what unit fought where and the personal anecdotes from soldiers and civilians from both sides adds to the narrative. I've been reading the book more as a novel before striking out to visit the actual battlefields. This book will be coming with us when we hit the battlefield roads.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.
