Texas Patriarch: A Legacy Lost

audiobook Texas Patriarch: A Legacy Lost by Douglas D Box in History

Description

History was repeating itself when Annette Gendler fell in love with a Jewish man in Germany in 1985. Her Great-Aunt Resi had been married to a Jew in Czechoslovakia before World War II―a marriage that; while happy; created tremendous difficulties for the extended family once the Nazis took over their hometown in 1938; and ultimately did not survive the pressures of the time. Annette and Harry’s love; meanwhile; was the ultimate nightmare for Harry’s family of Holocaust survivors. Weighed down by the burdens of their family histories; Annette and Harry kept their relationship secret for three years; until they could forge a path into the future and create a new life in Chicago. As time went on; however; Annette found a spiritual home in Judaism―a choice that paved the way toward acceptance by Harry’s family; and redemption for some of the wounds of her own family’s past.

RideyThis is an amazing and true story about how family business wealth can be lost and family relationships destroyed; despite the best estate planning. This first hand account is courageously told by the son of an entrepreneur who built an empire and exceptional wealth. It reads like a novel and could easily be developed into a movie. If you are a member of a family business; or; if you are an advisor to one; I urge you to read it. It's a quick read and the take-aways are too numerous to count.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. The War of the BoxesBy Virginia AlanisThere’s a lot of intrigue and ambition in Douglas D. Box’s TEXAS PATRIARCH. If you count A GAME OF THRONES as a favorite; you will love TEXAS PATRIARCH. It has business maneuvering and scheming; backstabbing; plotting and dealing — brothers turned into enemies by the overwhelming force of power; strategizing against one another.TEXAS PATRIARCH is a study in loyalty and brotherhood and how power can affect them. This fulfilling study in human behavior will enlighten you about family; honor; loyalty; and memory. Who will gain control of the company? Who will be left out in the cold? These are the questions that kept me turning the pages. The patriarch’s rise to greatness demanded cold calculation and total control. He was like an absolute monarch who didn’t have any use for his accomplished sons and their many attributes. His death created a void that exasperates the conflict where four brothers are pitted against one another as they encounter some serious responsibilities and challenges.TEXAS PATRIARCH is a multi-layered narrative filled with intrigue — plots and schemes; Box narrates the story mostly through exposition; but when he chooses to use dialogue; you feel as if you’re in the scene with these larger-than-life personages. “Doug; there just ain’t no quit in that man.”TEXAS PATRIARCH is a family saga which chronicles the lives and doings of the Box family from the 1950’s and into the 1990’s mainly in Dallas; Frisco; and Waco; Texas and in Oklahoma City; Oklahoma. This memoir contains plenty of intrigues in which the Box brothers are involved; with the most important being control of the family business after their father dies without a firm plan of succession. TEXAS PATRIARCH portrays the end of an era — the dissolution of a family company and the end of fractured loyalties within a family.Douglas D. Box has written one other memoir; CUTTER FRISCO (2014); about growing up on the original Southfork Ranch. Now that I’ve had the privilege to read TEXAS PATRIARCH; I can’t wait to read CUTTER FRISCO. Box is an excellent writer and his books are well worth your time.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Sad story - but great readBy Jason LovelessI've had the pleasure of knowing Doug Box for many years and had the opportunity to meet some of his family members/book characters. It was a facinating read for me; personally. That said; and knowing Doug personally as I do; it was tough to read.Doug; it is hard for me to imagine the roller coaster of emotions you must have experienced (and relived) in writing this; but thank you for taking on the task. I do hope it was healing for you in many ways.
