The Alphabet Versus the Goddess: The Conflict Between Word and Image (Compass)

ebooks The Alphabet Versus the Goddess: The Conflict Between Word and Image (Compass) by Leonard Shlain in History

Description

“For anyone who wants an insight into the nature of Russian society before the revolution; there is no doubt that Professor Pipes has written the book.”—Lionel Kochan; Jewish Chronicle This highly acclaimed study from Richard Pipes analyzes the evolution of the Russian state from the ninth century to the 1880s and its unique role in managing Russian society. The harsh geographical conditions and sheer size of the country prevented the creation of participatory government; and a “patrimonial” state emerged in which Russia was transformed into a gigantic royal domain. Richard Pipes traces these developments and goes on to analyze the political behavior of the principal social groupings—peasantry; nobility; middle-class; and clergy—and their failure to stand up to the increasing absolutism of the tsar. In order to strengthen his powers; legal and institutional bases were set up that led to the creation of a bureaucratic police state under the Communists. “A brilliant and provocative analysis . . . learned; judicious; witty and full of common sense.”—John Keep; The Times Literary Supplement “A lively; profound; often extremely subtle account of the making of the Russian state . . . For the serious student it is required reading which is also a delight. For the general reader with a minimal knowledge of Russian history and puzzled as to what makes the Russians tick; it lights up the whole field.”—Edward Crankshaw; The Observer “An excellent introduction; painstaking and enjoyable.”—The New York Review of Books “Pipes has produced a masterly interpretative history of tsarist Russa.”—Choice

WE see through this work the active pre-meditated disavowal and removal of the active presence of the Divinel in the FeminineBy James Reed "Dharman"IT is really an "eye opening" experience to see the conscious and pre-meditated practices and actions initiated in all of the ancient societies and visible throughout the ancient world in general and the modern world in particular that were directed toward removing and invalidating the acceptance and acknowledgement of the Divine Principal in Women and Feminine consciousness. The old confrontational relationship between The Right brain and the Left Brain is clearly revealed and defined by Dr. Shlain as are the fundamental ways that these active forces are responsible for defining our current "battle of the sexes".Truly a seminal work on understanding the manner in which these polarizing and fundamentally opposite perspectivres created our "modern "undrstanding/ignorance at the deepest levels of our society. The battle between Heart and Mind has a much deeper source than we ever considered and and the research on this book proves that in the clearest terms possible.Read this and you will know!4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Thought ProvokingBy R. ErazoThought provoking.... I have read several negative reviews; and it seems those reviewers actually didn't read the book well. The author many times uses the expression "I propose" which implies that what he writes is not a scientific claim. He is just giving his personal insight of a very interesting topic. Yes; there is a lack of evidence in many topics but this is not a scientific book. I really enjoyed reading it because is full of interesting historical information; and I must say that this book gave me a new insight to try understand human relationships.
