I was a litterära surprised that Gordon was such a prominent figurere and a skilled general. IT is remarkable that two so prominent persons in regard to literary proficiency; should encounter i Appamattox;in one of Americas defining moments. I find it a most readable book.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Excellently and timely themeBy wildcatNothing in the field of American History could be more timely than the lesson of respectful; civil discourse between two sides of a conflict. The additional theme of individual similarity; even in the midst of representing two different sides of a conflict; should give our current political leaders pause for thought. This should be required reading for undergraduates in Leadership Studies and our current elected officials.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Well written and great insightsBy John PaniszczynParallel backstories of two of the most famous generals in the Civil War. Their lives and miltary careers intersect at Appomattox and because of their outstanding characters;soldiers on both sides leave the field of war proud with some hope to look forward. Very well written storytelling in context. One of the better condensed description of the major battles involving the Armies of the Potomac and Northern Virginia.
