The Mahabharata is one of the two major Sanskrit epics of ancient India. It is an epic narrative of the Kurukshetra War and the fates of the Kauravas and the Pandava princes as well as containing philosophical and devotional material; such as a discussion of the four goals of life. Here we have Karna Parva; the eighth; in which the battle continues with Karna as commander. Vyasa is a revered figure in Hindu traditions. He is a kala-Avatar or part-incarnation of God Vishnu. Vyasa is sometimes conflated by some Vaishnavas with Badarayana; the compiler of the Vedanta Sutras and considered to be one of the seven Chiranjivins. He is also the fourth member of the Rishi Parampara of the Advaita Guru ParamparÄ of which Adi Shankara is the chief proponent.

This author was recommended for his superb research in details; that I have come to trust his work. I was wondering about this battle as I know that my ancestor had been at Ticonderoga; had escaped with his troop from there to Valcour Island and then moved on to Stillwater; NY There was also 2 other men; brothers; one was captured on the island and the other was on the Spitfire.5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. A great reference bookBy DonGNot so much about the battle itself. There is a chapter that discusses the battle in abbreviated form. Most of the book is a listing of the ships and the men who took part in the battle. In this regard it is very well researched and provides information not previously known. A great reference book.0 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Five StarsBy SandraVery interesting.
