PDF The Black Seminole Legacy and North American Politics: 1693-1845 by Bruce Edward Twyman in History

Description

This book presents important topics regarding the more mystical trend of Kabbalah--the ecstatic Kabbalah. It includes the mystical union; the world of imagination; and concentration as a spiritual technique. The emphasis in the text is on the interaction between the "original" Spanish stage of Kabbalah and Muslim mysticism in the East; mainly in the Galilee. The influence of the Kabbalistic-Sufic synthesis on the later developments of Jewish mysticism is traced; thereby providing a more precise understanding of the history of Kabbalah as an interplay between the theosophical and ecstatic mystical experiences.

The real causes of the Seminole WarsBy DEUsing primary and secondary sources; the author presents the real driving forces behind the so-called Seminole Wars on the Florida Frontier. Twyman provides convincing evidence that these "Indian Wars" were in fact wars against the freedom and self determination of the "Negro Seminoles"; both free and slave. Their Indian allies found themselves involved and placed front and center so that they conflict was portrayed to the American people as an "Indian War" and not a slave rebellion. The author makes a persuasive case in an easily read; yet scholarly presentation of the facts; the documents and the principal players on this tragic stage. If you are interested in the history of Florida - and the Seminole Wars in particular - or you want to better understand the forces and unresolved conflicts that ultimately resulted in the Civil war; read this book.4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. A scholarly; accessible studyBy Midwest Book ReviewThe Black Seminole Legacy And North American Politics 1693-1845 by educator and historian Bruce Edward Twyman is a scholarly; accessible study of fugitive slaves who fled to Florida and formed alliances with Native peoples; mostly Seminoles. Known as "Black Seminoles"; these independent-minded people had a profound effect on the politics of Spain; Britain; and the United States especially from 1693 to 1845. The influence that Black Seminoles had on United States presidents; and the particular contributions of the Black Seminole leader Abraham; are scrutinized in depth in this fascinating account that delves deep into an often-overlooked side of American history. Ideal for both academia and the non-specialist general reader with an interest in Native American Studies; The Black Seminole Legacy And North American Politics 1693-1845 is highly recommended reading.
