Description

A May 2007 Book Sense Pick“Talty’s vigorous history of seventeenth-century pirates of the Caribbean will sate even fickle Jack Sparrow fans. . . . A pleasure to read from bow to stern.” —Entertainment WeeklyThe passion and violence of the age of exploration and empire come to vivid life in this story of the legendary pirate who took on the greatest military power on earth with a ragtag bunch of renegades. Awash with bloody battles; political intrigues; natural disaster; and a cast of characters more compelling; bizarre; and memorable than any found in a Hollywood swashbuckler; Empire of Blue Water brilliantly re-creates the life and times of Henry Morgan and the real pirates of the Caribbean.

Review
8 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Interesting; poorly writtenBy Mark A. WilsonThe true story this book tells should be gripping; tense; and cinematic. It has all the elements: heroes; villains; beautiful women (both good and bad); spies; war; and more. Yet it is none of those. The writing is pedestrian at best; although it strives irregularly for a novelistic flair. If it were drier; it might be palatable as a straight history; if it were better written; it could be a terrific page-turner. Sad to say; it's neither.I'm glad to have read it; in the sense of having learned about an interesting time; and a daring plan; but I certainly wish the experience hadn't felt so much like work! There are places where the failings might be blamed on a bad book-to-Kindle conversion; but there are far too many awkward turns of phrase; or thuddingly cliched descriptions; to ever enjoy the reading itself.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Good quick readBy Bettejean VarneyGood quick read. Interesting story. Would have like it more if there was more infomation that would have given more insight into the participants personalities and what made the motivated to do what they did. As a veteran I thought the detail was very good.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Five StarsBy Customerwell writen
