The Cambridge History of Judaism; Vol. 1: The Persian Period

PDF The Cambridge History of Judaism; Vol. 1: The Persian Period by From Brand: Cambridge University Press in History

Description

This is the first of a two-volume treatment of slavery; capitalism and politics in the forty years before the Civil War. It is both a novel reinterpretation; from a Marxist perspective; of American political and economic development and a synthesis of existing scholarship on the economics of slavery; the origins of abolitionism; the proslavery argument and the second party system. With its sequel; this book will locate the political struggles of the antebellum period in the international context of the dismantling of unfree labor systems. It will also show that the Civil War should be seen as America's "bourgeois revolution."

Review
6 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Not a Real HardcoverBy Dennis WebbMy comment is not on the content of this volume; but the manufacture. This is supposed to be a hardcover book; but it's not. It's merely a paperback with the pages glued together in paperback fashion; and a hard cover glued onto that. In other words; the pages are not stitched; as they would be in a real hardcover book. When the glue dries out in years to come; the pages will fall out. For $70; this should be a real hardcover; not a deception.
