The Celtic Way of Prayer: The Recovery of the Religious Imagination

ePub The Celtic Way of Prayer: The Recovery of the Religious Imagination by Esther De Waal in History

Description

“I recommend The Next Christians; which will give you great insight into the hopes and aspirations of the next generation…." —Chuck Colson; founder of Prison Fellowship “Provocative; yet massively optimistic!”—Louie Giglio; pastor and founder of the Passion Movement Gabe Lyons is optimistic that Christianity’s best days are yet to come. His best-selling book; UnChristian; revealed the pervasiveness of culture’s growing disregard for Christians. Now; in The Next Christians; Lyons shows how a new wave of believers are turning the tide by bringing the truth of the Gospel to bear on our changing; secular society. “Restorers;” as Lyons calls them; approach culture with a different mentality than generations past. Informed by truth; yet seasoned with grace and love; these believers engage the world by drawing it to the sensibility and authenticity of the Christian life. You can be one of these “next” Christians and change the negative perception of Christianity by living a life that is faithful to the Gospel; yet credible and coherent to your friends and neighbors.

EldredgePraying is somewhat of a lost art with people. Getting yourself to pray for more than a minute leads to a grocery list of wants like God is a drive through of desires. This book will help you bring your prayer life into prospective and bring you to a quite place. I would recommend you set aside all other reading and focus on this book for a short bit. Dig deep into yourself and find that desire for a relationship with God. The Celtic way is not the only way. It is a simple and back to basic type of thinking. We live in a fast pace world; put on the brakes and see what the Lord has for you here.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Wonderful BookBy Jeniffer SmithOne of my favorite books on prayer. De Waal gives background information on the types of prayers uttered and then laces the text with beautiful prayers. The prayers are definitely my favorite part. With the background info given; it's easy to imagine the older men repeating their journey prayers or the housewives praying over their homes at night after the children have gone to bed. A wonderful read.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Excellent method and historyBy EtherealExcellent method and history; yet prayers do not fit modern life. For example there is a prayer to use when kindling the hearth for cooking but not when preparing or preheating a modern oven.
